The First Reviews For ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Are In — Here Is What Critics Are Saying

With The Fantastic Four: First Steps set to finally arrive in theaters tomorrow, the first reviews for the film are in.

So far, 2025 has been a largely disappointing affair for Marvel Studios at the box office. The year began with the release of Captain America: Brave New World, which received middling reviews from critics and fans alike.

Subsequently, the studio released Thunderbolts*, which was lauded by critics but fell short of box office expectations.

Against this backdrop, Marvel’s First Family is heading to theaters this weekend.

The Reviews Are In

The good news for Marvel is that the early reviews for The Fantastic Four: First Steps have been overwhelmingly positive thus far.

As of this writing, the film holds an 87% “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

That number ties the film with Ant-Man and the Wasp as the #15th highest rated MCU film.

“Benefitting from rock-solid cast chemistry and clad in appealingly retro 1960s design, this crack at The Fantastic Four does Marvel’s First Family justice,” the critical consensus reads.

Marvel Needs a Hit

While Thunderbolts* proved that strong reviews do not necessarily guarantee box office success, things look promising for The Fantastic Four so far.

In addition to its strong Rotten Tomatoes score, the film is tracking towards a massive opening weekend. The hope for Marvel is that the movie will be able to maintain momentum and capitalize on strong word-of-mouth to secure an extended box office run.
