After years of waiting, Marvel’s first family has finally arrived in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
“Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ introduces Marvel’s First Family—Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ben Grimm/The Thing as they face their most daunting challenge yet,” the film’s synopsis reads.

“Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.”
Marvel Needed a Hit
Heading into the weekend, the hope was that The Fantastic Four would get the MCU back on track and deliver the kind of opening frame that has eluded Marvel so far this year.

Thankfully, the film delivered.
A Strong Opening and a Milestone For Disney
Disney is now estimating that The Fantastic Four will close its opening weekend at $118 million at the domestic box office and $100 million overseas for a global cume of $218 million.

That number not only gave Marvel its best opening since Deadpool & Wolverine last year, but also propelled Disney above $3 billion for the year.
Perhaps even more importantly, First Steps has received an A-CinemaScore rating, which should help propel the film to an extended box office.

After a disappointing start to 2025, Marvel needed The Fantastic Four: First Steps to be a hit. By the look of things, the studio now has nothing to worry about.
