Krysten Ritter has been lying to you. We here at MarvelBlog tried to warn you, but you didn’t listen.
Now, the actress is finally ready to come clean about years of deceit. We’ll try not to gloat in MarvelBlog News.
SURPRISE!

A couple of years ago, I posted an Instagram picture from a hairstylist. She was showing pride in her work.
She had just styled the hair of a celebrity, one named Krysten Ritter. That’s not newsworthy in and of itself.

The surprise was the hair, which everyone quickly identified as that of Ritter’s signature character, Jessica Jones.
Thus, speculation ensued about the return of Jessica Jones to Marvel Entertainment.

Of course, that wasn’t even really speculation. She was clearly back. The problem was that Ritter couldn’t admit it.
So, the actress has spent the past two years lying about whether Jessica Jones would ever make a triumphant comeback.

I’ve known for a while that she wasn’t being honest, but when someone says something quotable, you must quote them.
Therefore, her mea culpa is also my mea culpa as I’ve posted a couple of things where she intentionally misled.

Now, if you read any of that, you know that I was tongue-in-cheek about it because I know the deal here.
We’re currently witnessing the same behavior with Avengers: Doomsday.

Some actors will appear in the film as surprises, just as Chris Evans did in Deadpool & Wolverine.
And just like Evans in that movie, they must lie about it to maintain the sense of surprise.

That’s the current MCU playbook, and we’ve recently learned that Jessica Jones is a part of said MCU.
We can play the “Is Jessica Jones canon?” game until we’re blue in the face, but it doesn’t really matter.

As of Daredevil season two, all of the Defenders will qualify as a part of the MCU.
It’d been a gray area since Daredevil debuted on Netflix in 2015. Now, a decade later, we finally have clarity.
Oops, I Did It Again

As part of that clarity, Marvel has acknowledged that Jessica Jones is joining the cast of Daredevil.
Now Ritter, who has spent the past two years flatly denying that rumor, is doing the whole “Oops, my bad” thing.

Here’s an interview she recently did for The Playlist. And the gist is, “I lied for two straight years.”
She leads with, “I’ve also known for so long, and keeping it a secret has been torture. I’d known for almost two years, and it’s a long time.”

Then, she adds, “It’s either been talked about, in the works, or some state for a long time.
So, keeping that secret and keeping the enthusiasm and waiting until the [Marvel] upfronts to announce it, it was like, when it was finally out, I was like, ‘Oh my God!’ I’m always pretending I’m not in New York…keeping secrets because I get asked about it daily.”
Again, we’ve known since the hairstylist accidentally said too much, not knowing Marvel fans are.
And some of us were aware even before then. Still, Ritter had to keep up appearances for casual fans.

Now that the proverbial cat is out of the bag, Ritter sounds delighted, as we’d all expect.
The actress knows that she was born to play Jessica Jones, which was my favorite of Netflix’s Marvel shows.

In truth, I consider Jessica Jones perfect television. So, I’m thrilled, too, as you should be.
To a larger point, if you’ve never watched Jessica Jones or haven’t seen it in a while, you owe it to yourself.

This is the kind of Marvel content we all crave. And now we’re getting more of it with Daredevil season two.
Marvel Miscellany
Of course, that leads us to an unpleasant truth. Daredevil: Born Again season one simply wasn’t a hit.
Nielsen just released its streaming charts for the first half of 2025, the time of Daredevil’s release.
To the surprise of nobody, Daredevil didn’t earn a spot. I say this because Daredevil never charted.
So, Marvel declined significantly from Agatha All Along until now, which is concerning.

Agatha All Along charted frequently and finished with Loki-ish numbers. Daredevil wasn’t even close.
On a different note, Sony just confirmed the release date of the third Spider-Verse film.

This time, the studio pushed back the film by only a modest amount, three weeks.
Now, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will debut in theaters on June 25th, 2027.

We also learned something interesting from Edi Gathegi, who is currently appearing in Superman.
The actor whom I adore from For All Mankind and Startup explained what happened to his Marvel character.

Gathegi portrayed Darwin in X-Men: First Class but had some reservations about the script, as his character died midway through the plot.
Well, Fox’s version of Marvel flat out lied to the actor, promising that he’d return in the sequel.

As an FYI, they made several sequels. He was never invited back. I’m so glad Fox got swallowed by Disney.
Finally, on the Fantastic Four front, I have a WILD update to share. Remember John Malkovich?

Photo: The Wrap
Yeah, I made a big deal of his casting in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Oops, my bad.
The final cut of the film has edited his character, the Red Ghost, out of the story entirely.

It’s one thing to bench Seth Rollins but…John Malkovich? Really?
