Just weeks after Marvel announced that both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars were being delayed, the studio has added a fourth movie to its 2028 release calendar.
Previously, Marvel was expected to release new films in February, May, and November 2028. Now, another untitled film has been given a December 15, 2028, release date.

Here is the latest.
A Change in Strategy?
While it is not unthinkable that Marvel will indeed release four films in 2028, it would be surprising.
The last time the studio churned out that many movies in a calendar year was 2021, when Black Widow, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Eternals, and Spider-Man: No Way Home all hit theaters.

Since then, however, Disney CEO Bob Iger has made it clear that he wants Marvel to focus on quality, not quantity. In fact, last May, he told investors that Disney would release no more than three films in a year.
“We’re slowly going to decrease volume and go to probably about two TV series a year instead of what had become four and reduce our film output from maybe four a year to two, or a maximum of three,” he explained.
A Look Ahead
Looking at the current Marvel schedule, the studio will release The Fantastic Four: First Steps this year, Spider-Man: Brand New Day in July 2026, and Avengers: Doomsday in December 2026.
Two Marvel films are on the docket for 2027: an untitled project in July and Avengers: Secret Wars in December.
What Will Marvel Do?
With Marvel promising that Secret Wars will conclude its Multiverse Saga and perhaps drastically reshape the MCU, maybe the studio will release four films in 2028.
However, one of the films will likely be dropped. Just this year, we saw Disney make a similar move with the long-languishing Blade.

All bets are off as to what the mystery 2028 film could be. As of this writing, an X-Men film, a Fantastic Four sequel, Black Panther 3, Doctor Strange 3, or perhaps the aforementioned Blade would all seem to be possibilities.
