Manga UP! Global added Sōta Takahata‘s manga adaptation of Ezogingitune‘s Cast-off Magic Tool Researcher is Actually an S-rank Mage (Hisentōshoku no Madōgu Kenkyūin, Jitsuwa Kikakugai no S-Rank Madōshi) light novel series on Saturday.
Manga UP! describes the story:
Werner, a brilliant and hardworking magic tool researcher at the Empire’s top institution, the Sage’s Academy, suddenly finds himself expelled by a jealous chancellor looking to profit off of Werner’s inventions.
But without Werner, the Academy quickly hits a well, and not a single new magic tool could be developed. It turns out Werner’s theories are way too advanced for anyone else to follow!
While the academy flounders, Werner attracts attention from all walks of life—from a maiden dragon to a princess. Armed with the strongest spells and magic tools, he’s ready to enjoy a laid-back life of research…surrounded by cute apprentices to boot!
Takahata launched the manga Square Enix‘s Manga UP! in November 2023. Zenji Yotsuya is credited with the story composition. Square Enix shipped the first compiled volume of the manga in Japan in September 2024, and will release the second volume on September 5.
Ezogingitune launched the story on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō (Let’s Be Novelists) website in January 2021, and the series is ongoing. SB Creative is publishing the novel series in print with Tomozero‘s illustrations, and published the fourth volume in February 2023.
