Kevin Feige Confirms 'Secret Wars' Will "Reset" the MCU; Marvel Will Recast Original Avengers

Leading up to the release of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Infinity Wars, rumors of an MCU reboot have continued to gain momentum.

With the multiverse set to collide, the prevailing notion has been that Marvel will use the opportunity to head back to square one, or at least some version of it.

Now, we have confirmation that the studio has a reset in mind.

“Secret Wars Is About Beginnings”

During a recent interview with Variety, which covered an extensive list of topics, Marvel head Kevin Feige laid out the studio’s future plans in black and white.

“We’re utilizing that [story] not just to round out the stories we’ve been telling post-‘Endgame,’ just as importantly — and you can look at the at the ‘Secret Wars’ comics for where that takes you — it very, very much sets us up for the future,” Feige said. “‘Endgame,’ literally, was about endings. ‘Secret Wars’ is about is about beginnings.”

A “Reset” Not a “Reboot”

During his media blitz, Feige made sure to explain that the MCU was not being “rebooted,” but rather “reset.”

“Reboot is a scary word,” he said. “Reboot can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. Reset, singular timeline — we’re thinking along those lines.”

Recasting the Original Avengers

After noting that the MCU will shift to the X-Men following Secret Wars, Feige admitted that the future may also see rebooted versions of beloved Avengers such as Captain America and Iron Man.

“Amy Pascal and David Heyman are now searching for a new James Bond,” Feige said. “David [Corenswet], the new Superman — he was awesome. That will always be the case.”

As the MCU marches towards Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, fans should take stock of where we are at. Once the next Avengers films arrive, the universe as we know it will change forever.
