Get your Tomino dollars at Side 6
Japanese watchers couldn’t help but notice a surprise appearance of Gundam franchise creator Yoshiyuki Tomino in the sixth Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX episode on Thursday. At about the 14-minute mark, the episode features a personal safe with several stacks of bills inside. What fans noticed, though, was the face on the bill appears to be a young, bearded Tomino.

A March 2010 post by the Tominosuki blog traces Tomino’s life with a series of photos. According to the blog, the image of Tomino used in the episode is from 1978’s Tetsuwan Atom Roman Album 7 book.
The Nihon no Furuhonya website has images of Tetsuwan Atomo Roman Album 7, one of which features part of an interview with the legendary director with a photo of him at an Astro Boy dinner seminar. In the photo we see a figure, who we can assume is Tomino, sporting the same look as the bills in Gundam GQuuuuuux.
As of press time, Tomino has not commented on his stealth appearance in Gundam GQuuuuuux..
