'Fantastic Four' Star Julian McMahon Has Passed Away at 56

Julian McMahon, the beloved star of both television and films, has passed away at the age of 56 after a private battle with cancer.

Born in Sydney, Australia, on July 27, 1968, to Billy McMahon, the future Prime Minister of Australia, McMahon started his career in modeling before transitioning to acting. After landing the lead role in the short-lived Australian soap opera The Power, the Passion, McMahon moved to another soap, Home and Away, in 1990.

From there, he starred opposite Elliot Gould in 1992’s We and Wild Summer! In 1993, McMahon relocated to Hollywood, landing a role on the soap opera Another World. He would later go on to star in network dramas including Profiler, Charmed, and later, as the lead in Ryan Murphy’s Nip/Tuck, where he portrayed Dr. Christian Troy.

Years later, he starred in CBS’s FBI: Most Wanted as Jess LaCroix.

Doctor Doom and ‘Runaways’

Outside of network television, McMahon had a significant presence in the Marvel universe.

The actor portrayed Dr. Doom in 2005’s Fantastic Four and its sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

Later, he would also appear as a regular in Marvel’s Runaways on Hulu.

“Julian Loved Life”

News of Julian’s passing was shared by his wife, Kelly.

“With an open heart, I wish to share with the world that my beloved husband, Julian McMahon, died peacefully this week after a valiant effort to overcome cancer,” McMahon’s wife, Kelly McMahon, said in a statement to Deadline.

“Julian loved life. He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his work, and he loved his fans. His deepest wish was to bring joy into as many lives as possible. We ask for support during this time to allow our family to grieve in privacy. And we wish for all of those to whom Julian brought joy, to continue to find joy in life. We are grateful for the memories.”
